The man from God knows where

There is a lot of confusion around about what I know and don't know and I seem to have accidently used a photo of someone on my blog when I was simply using a photo of a policeman.

Ronnie over at the BBC wrote:

Smasher - you really don't know the priest whose photo - referred to by Andy - is on your website with the RUC man???
He's one of the most famous priests in the North - reputed to be a major player in the Peace Process.

He was described by the Irish News - a few weeks ago - amidst a list of other worthies - as a very probable future bishop.
It was in an article by Will Scoles - about the imminent announcement of Mgr Treanor's appointment to Down and Connor - about a week before the leaked appointment was confirmed.

It is a widely held view that he - the man in your picture - will definitely go purple and highly likely end up red.
Your sources are letting you down, smasher! You should order the Irish News in Cooldeery.

Funnilly enough, you can get the Irish News in Coolderry but it's a long time since it was a useful source for Catholic news, probably since Fr Mc Manus became Press Officer - no, that's unfair.  The Irish News simply lost interest.

So who is the mysterious man in the picture, a player in the peace process - is it Alex Reid?

Smasher cleans up at the Irish blog awards

Long after the winners at the Irish blog awards ceremony had gone home to the back bedrooms in their mammy's house, I gave Cyril, the caretaker a hand stacking the chairs.  "That internet's disgusting", he said, "they always stick their gum to the bottom of the tables, and you want to see the state of the toilets."  But enough about William Crawley and Slugger O'Toole.

In the absence of an award, and of course I didn't want an award and was thrilled when I heard who'd won, and did I mention my grandfather invented the internet when he lived in Monaghan, I thought, with a deep sense of humility, I might just share with you some comments made by the BBC about Smasher Lagru:

       "Brilliant - slammer!"

"My - but you are GOOD!!"

"For A Big Intelligent Fellow From Offaly - you have the D&C diocese well and truly sussed out :-)"

"Remarkably insightful, penetratingly accurate and hilariously funny - keep it up!"

Changing your sanctuary

The recent post comparing pulpits and the letter from the Archbishop of Anchorage (sic) provoked a number of emails and comments.  A couple of pictures below showing you how to transform your nouveau sanctuary from hotel foyer look to something useable for the extraordinary form.  And before some people start to pigeon hole me - I have no axe to grind on the TLM.  I've only ever been to one and won't particularly be looking for another one but I trust the Pope and mistrust bishops who don't, like the former bishop of Down and Connor - now Administrator but still insisting he be remembered in the Canon.

Who's Phyllis?

I received the email below from a reader.  Can anyone help him with an answer?

I was wondering smasher is you knew anything about "the wing" at st malachy's college, because i constantley see people writing on blogs about it and they never going to into details about their time there and some shout 'Phyllis' implying it has something to do with the wing!

any idea what they are talking about?

Thanks and keep up the good work on your blog!

I must confess to some suspicion about this email, particularly the "constantly see people writing on blogs about it".  The only references I could find were a pwiest who died a few years ago and a BBC blog on the Stop Donal Campaign.

I know the Wing is the name commonly used for the seminary in Belfast attached to St Malachy's College, but anyone know who the mysterious Phyllis might be?  Leave a comment or email.
